Nigerians nurses to embark on 7-days nationwide warning strike
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has announced a seven-day warning strike starting midnight on July 29, 2025, due to the federal government's failure to meet their long-standing demands. The strike will affect all government-owned health facilities nationwide, disrupting service delivery.

*Key Demands:*

- *Gazetting of Nurses Scheme of Service*: NANNM demands the gazetting of the 2016 Nurses Scheme of Service approved by the National Council on Establishments.
- *Implementation of Court Judgment*: The association seeks implementation of a January 27, 2012, National Industrial Arbitration Court judgment.
- *Upward Review of Professional Allowances*: NANNM calls for an increase in professional allowances for nurses and midwives.
- *Employment of Additional Nursing Personnel*: The association demands more nursing staff to improve healthcare services.
- *Adequate Provision of Equipment*: NANNM insists on proper equipment for health facilities.
- *Creation of Department of Nursing*: The association advocates for a Department of Nursing in the Federal Ministry of Health.
- *Inclusion in Leadership Roles*: NANNM seeks inclusion of nurses in key policy-making roles and fair representation on boards of federal health institutions.
- *Withdrawal of Reviewed Allowances Circular*: The association demands withdrawal of a recent circular on reviewed allowances, describing it as "grossly inadequate and discriminatory".

NANNM had issued a 15-day ultimatum starting July 14, 2025, which expired without meaningful response from the federal government, prompting the strike.
