2027: Obi, Bauchi gov seek united opposition fight
August 08, 2025 · By Jesus
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors' Forum, are pushing for a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 elections. They believe that a strong, collaborative effort is necessary to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ¹ ² ³.
Obi and Mohammed recently met to discuss the country's challenges, particularly poverty and criminality. They emphasized the need for opposition parties to close ranks and present a united front to rescue and recover the country ².
The PDP governors, Obi, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) are working on a coalition to oust the APC in 2027. Nasir El-Rufai, the former Kaduna State Governor, has also defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and is rallying opposition forces ¹ ⁴.
Key stakeholders, including the NNPP and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), are advocating for a broad opposition alliance. However, internal disagreements persist, with some PDP leaders arguing that their party remains the strongest platform to accommodate other opposition groups
